Traditional Orthodontic Treatment for Reliable Results
Braces are an economical, durable, and time-tested method for straightening teeth and improving oral function. They can resolve a wide range of orthodontic conditions relating to both the teeth and the jaws.
For all of these reasons, braces make a great choice for kids.
Most kids who need orthodontic intervention to correct misaligned teeth or jaws will start treatment with braces between the ages of 11 and 13, when all their permanent teeth have grown in.
In rare cases, kids as young as seven may be candidates for braces. We use braces on children with baby teeth only when necessary to create space for adult teeth to erupt in the proper positions, correct crossbites, or correct certain functional issues.
Consultations & Monitoring for Children
Children should visit the orthodontist for the first time around the age of seven for an orthodontic consultation. This visit will give us an opportunity to to determine if any orthodontic treatment is needed.
If it is, we will commence with a treatment plan. If not, we offer free assessment appointments every six to 12 months until your child is ready for braces.
Features of Braces for Kids
If you're a parent considering braces for your child, it's important to know that braces have changed since you were a kid. Here's how:
Comfort & Efficiency
Getting braces marks an important milestone in your child’s dental health journey and their life. For many kids, braces symbolize a rite of passage, and it’s completely normal to feel anxious about the process.
Kids who might feel a bit unsure about getting braces will be happy to hear that innovations in orthodontics have made traditional braces much more effective at correcting misalignments than ever before. This means shorter treatment times for kids today, making the journey much smoother!
Streamlined Appearance
Not very long ago, braces were bulky and sharp, often accompanied by headgear. Today, traditional metal braces are much smaller and lighter, designed with comfort and effectiveness in mind. An additional bonus is that braces typically only need to be adjusted at regularly scheduled intervals.
Braces Treatment at Shoreline Orthodontics
Orthodontic braces traditionally straighten teeth using a combination of brackets, elastic bands, and wires.
But today's braces aren't the clunky, uncomfortable face-full-of-metal that you might be picturing from decades ago. Modern braces are more streamlined and more comfortable than ever before.
